Mali
Iž is a place on SI part of island Iž and
is consisted with three smaller places(Mućel, Makovac
and Porovac), which are situated on three hills,
and two bays(Knež and Komoševa) wich are at the
bottom of the hills. Iž is situated between Long
Island and Ugljan from which is separated with Middle
channel and channel of Iž.The island is surrounded
by 10 smaller islands of wich the biggest is Knežak
and Rutnjak.
Island is populated since prehistoric
time. In Middle Ages it was property of nobility
from Zadar.We can still find the remains of a fortified
castle(Turanj).On one of the hills of Mali Iž you
can find old preromanic church from 11 th century.
It was partially destroyed by a lightining so another
church was built right next to the old one in the
19th century. |

The
old houses made
of rock are still well preserved, but they are mostly
used by fishermen to keep their nets, fishing tools,home
made oil and wine.
Tourist offer
of Mali Iž is supplemented with stores, pizza places,
caffes with balconies which are faced to the seai restaurants
a'la carte. In Veli Iž you can find bakery,post office,hotel,
marina, tennis ground, ambulance…
Durin the holiday of Vela Gospa in
Mali Iž ,15th of august, there is a local party.In the
afternoon there is a waterpolo game and rope pulling,
and at night dance with live music.
In Veli Iž local party is organised
by the end of July,and lasts two days.During those two
days there are also sport events organised,and at night
there is dance with live music.
